DIY Wood Round Door Hanger Signs

wood round DIY

Make your own budget friendly farmhouse door or wall sign using this DIY wood round tutorial. Each DIY wood round costs less than $5 to make.

This post contains affiliate links, if you purchase through these links, I will receive a small commission at no extra charge to you.

Amazon carries the exact same size and thickness with out the twine hangers. You can purchase a 12 pack for $12.99.

Modern Farmhouse DIY Wood Round

To create this beautiful modern farmhouse wood round, measure 7 1/2″ from the right hand side and make a mark.

Place a piece of painters tape on your mark. This should be roughly 1/3 of the wood round.

Measure and mark 4″ from the top and the bottom of the wood round.

Place painters tape on those areas too. If you are concerned with paint bleed through, you could apply a coat of Mod Podge before painting.

Time To Paint!

On the right hand side, paint the top and bottom with two coats of a black acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry.

Place painters tape along the two black lines.

Paint the center section white. You don’t have to paint all the way across, just far enough to past the black lines on the left.

Once your paint is dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge to the natural wood surface.

Allow the Mod Podge to completely dry. We will be covering the natural wood area with a piece of scrap book paper that has a herringbone pattern. You can find this at Hobby Lobby.

To adhere the scrap book paper, lay the wood round onto a heat protective mat. Line your scrap book paper edge to the line you create on the wood round. Lay a piece of parchment paper on top of the scrap book paper and gently go over this area with a small iron set on 300 to 325 degrees. This will heat the dry Mod Podge up and adhere your paper to the wood.

Allow your wood round to cool, then using a piece of sandpaper, go around the edges in one direction to remove the excess paper and give you a nice clean edge.

To protect the paper apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over the surface. I applied to the entire wood round to make sure everything has the same sheen.

Adding Embellishments

Once the Mod Podge dried, I added a decal I made using my Cricut machine. If you don’t have a Cricut or vinyl cutting machine, no worries. I have a free printable, you can download the PDF, print at home and trace this onto your project. Then fill it in with paint or a marker.

Using three wooden dowels, these came from

Using a pencil, make a curved mark at the top and bottom of the dowel.

Cut along your lines. I used my hand held miter shears. Then I lightly sanded each end of the dowel.

Glue the dowel in place.

If your planning on hanging this on a covered porch, I recommend using a long term permanent glue.

Line the other two dowels from the edge of this dowel along the black lines.

Mark, cut, and glue the same way.

Adding Greenery and a Bow

The greenery I chose for the top of this wood round DIY, was two stems of boxwood picks from Wal-Mart.

Place the greenery stems end to end and wrap with twine to hold them together. If you are using a wood round that does not have a hanger, you can also use the twine to create a hanger on the back.

I made a simple bow using some burlap ribbon, and placed a burlap flower from

I attached the bow to the greenery using twine and left the ends of the twine long to add some natural wood beads.

Glue your greenery and bow to the top of the wood round to complete this DIY.

What do you think?

Farmhouse Cow Print Wood Round DIY

This wood round DIY was made using cow print scrap book paper from Hobby Lobby, lambs ear picks from Wal-Mart, buffalo check and burlap ribbon. This decal is also available as a free PDF printable.

Welcome To Our Home Wood Round DIY

Did you know that Dollar Tree’s MDF wreath base form fits perfectly on top of these wood rounds? I painted sections of this round with white paint and celery green paint. Using a Dollar Tree furniture marker, I went over the lines to give them a pop of color. Added a decal with two different fonts, and placed the MDF wreath form painted a khaki color on top of the wood round, embellished the top with two wood birds and a wood flower, found at Dollar Tree during the Spring season.

A Fun Owl Door Hanger DIY

How fun is this door hanger? Paint a wooden owl from Dollar Tree with Dollar Tree’s furniture markers in the color maple and oak. Fill in the top and eyes with a black acrylic paint, and the beak with a pumpkin orange paint. Dry brush an ivory color along the edges to give it a feathered look and glue to a Dollar Tree sign.

High End Decor Dupe DIY’s On A Dollar Budget

High End Decor Dupes On A Dollar Budget

This page contains affiliate links. If you purchase through these links I will receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.

If your like me, I love to browse through high end stores, but every time I pick up an item to look at the price tag….I gasp and quickly tell myself, I can make that for a lot less. With the cost of everything sky rocketing these days, I can’t afford to spend $60 on wall art, or $100 on a lamp. Today I will show you how I created 5 decor dupes on a dollar store budget. Once your finished reading, make sure to leave me a comment at the bottom of the page letting me know which one was your favorite❤️

Photo Frame Ladder Decor Dupe

On a recent trip to Dollar Tree, I came across 4X4 beaded wood photo frames. Even though I quickly purchased 5 of them, I will only be using 4 for this project. I saved the fifth one to do a separate project with.

You will also need 4 wooden garden stakes from Dollar General. They sell these for $1 a piece. I thought I could make this using three garden stakes, but you will need the fourth one to complete the project.

Cut two of the garden stakes down to 34 3/4″ each, then cut five 8″ pieces using the other two garden stakes.

Make sure to give each one a good sanding because this wood is pretty rough.

Measuring from the left hand side, make a mark on each of the 8″ pieces at 1 5/8″ and 6 3/8″, try to mark them in the center of the wood pieces, like this.

Using a 5/16ths drill bit, drill a hole through each of your marks. Make sure to place these on another block of wood to protect your work surface.

You will likely have to re sand these to clean the holes up.

Lay your two 34 3/4″ garden stakes side by side and make a mark at the following measurements: 1″, 9″, 17″, 25″, and 33″

Using these marks, you can line up your 8″ pieces and glue the ends to your larger garden stakes using wood glue. Make sure your holes are on the sides as you glue them down, as seen here:

To make sure your glue seals well to each piece, clamp the pieces together and let the glue set up for several hours.

The Frame Is Complete!

You can paint or stain your project your desired color. I preferred the natural wood look, and the beaded wood frames match perfectly with the garden stakes, so I didn’t paint or stain mine. Using Dollar Tree nautical rope, feed one end through each hole on one side and tie a knot.

Pull the rope from left to right to tighten as you go and tie another knot at the opposite end.

Once that side is complete, add the nautical rope to the other side the exact same way. To attach the frames to the nautical rope, apply hot glue lining the beaded portion up with the nautical rope.

Try to keep the frames centered in each section as you add all four frames.

If you prefer, you can also add staples to the back to secure the frames to the rope.

You are still able to access the backing of each frame and change your photos out.

The Final Result

We were able to create this for $10.25 verses the high end stores price of $79.99!

Pampas Grass Beaded Frame Decor Dupe

Granted our dupe will not be the exact same size as the inspiration piece because we are using an 11X14 frame from Dollar Tree.

To give this the antique gold look, you could spray paint the frame or use Folk Art’s Metallic Antique Gold acrylic paint like I did. This really helped to bring out the details on the edge of the frame.

For the fabric backing, we will be using a flour sack. You can purchase a pack of two at Dollar General.

Add a layer of Mod Podge to the glass and allow it to fully dry.

My Favorite Way To Use Mod Podge, Leaving No Wrinkles!

Set the glass onto a heat protective mat, lay your flour sack on top of the side of the glass with the dry Mod Podge. Set a piece of parchment paper over the flour sack. Using a small iron, gently and carefully go over the parchment paper to adhere the flour sack to the glass. I have my iron set on around 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat from the iron will “reactivate” the Mod Podge allowing the fabric to seal to the glass.

Give the glass time to cool down, flip it over and set it on a cutting board. Using a utility knife, carefully remove the excess fabric from the edges.

You could reinsert this into the frame and continue, however I didn’t like the stark white look of the fabric.

To really make the fabric stand out, I painted it with a coat of chalk paint in the color French Linen. Because the chalk paint is fairly thick, you may want to water it down a bit to avoid streaking and clumps.

Allow time for the paint to fully dry before reinserting into the frame. The paint gave the fabric a velvety look.

Using some pampas grass that I already had in my craft room. I gave it a good shake to remove any loose particles. To help it hold its shape, I lightly misted both sides with hair spray. You can find similar pampas grass at Amazon.

Once you have your desired shape, simply glue the grass bundle to the fabric using hot glue or the glue of your choice.

Because I already had the pampas grass and paint on hand, this project cost me less than $3.00 to make.

Metal Milk Can Decor Dupe

Luckily, I have a metal cookie container that resembles the shape. This is a true trash to treasure project.

After removing the label and giving this a thorough cleaning, I took it outside and gave it two light coats of a high gloss white spray paint.

To achieve the distressed galvanized look, I used a piece of a bath sponge from Dollar Tree, a dry brush, and Folk Art’s Metallic Acrylic paint in the color gun metal gray.

I started at the top rim using the dry brush, applying paint to all of the rims including the handles.

To achieve the larger galvanized areas, I used the sponge piece and lightly dabbed the paint in all the areas that I thought looked good.

This project did not cost me anything, because I already had all the supplies! By giving this container new life, we saved it from the landfill.

High End Lamp Decor Dupe

About 4 years ago, I turned a glass bottle into a lamp. If your interesting in watching that video, here is the link.

As much as we have enjoyed the faux marble look, it was definitely time for a change. To prep for paint, I wrapped all the parts that I did not want paint to get on with painters tape.

I found this beautiful textured spray paint at Lowes. It was perfect because it had tiny white speckles in it.

Because textured spray paint costs more than regular matte spray paint. I applied two thin coats of the cheaper paint to the lamp first and allowed that to dry over night.

The next day, I applied two coats of the textured spray paint, going in several different directions.

I love the final result! It gave my DIY lamp a higher end and more modern look. And it only cost me one bottle of textured spray paint.

10 Easy To Do Farmhouse Tier Tray and Riser Diy’s

Using tier trays and risers can really take your decorating style up a notch. However, they can be quite expensive. Here are 10 budget friendly do it yourself tier trays and risers. I hope you get tons of inspiration. If you would like to see the full step by step video tutorial, make sure to click on my YouTube video at the end.

Riser # 1 is made using a Dollar Tree cake pan, painted to look like galvanized metal. The base is a ceramic candle holder sitting atop a round plastic container from Dollar Tree, painted a distressed white. This riser can give height in your decor and can be decorated in many different ways.

Riser # 2 is gorgeous! Using two wood rounds from Wal-Mart at $1 a piece, glue wooden beads between the two. I purchase my wooden beads from Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3Kqtt0r

The base is a glass candle holder from Dollar Tree painted with white chalk paint and then antique wax added to the entire riser. I love how this turned out, and only cost a few dollars to make.

Riser # 3, is a painted version of riser # 2. Using a distressing paint technique with white chalk paint, you can customize this riser to fit into your color theme.

Riser # 4 has a unique shape. Most risers you see are round or rectangular. Here you have two hexagon shaped risers to give your decor a more modern look. The one on the left has a Dollar Tree candle holder as its base while the one on the right has wooden beads on each corner.

Riser # 5 has a classic look that never goes out of style. This piece is all wood. Using a wood round from Dollar Tree’s Plus section and wooden beads as feet, all stained with Antique wax, gives this riser such a gorgeous finish.

Riser # 6 is stunning! Removing the feet from the previous riser and combining this with riser # 4 (the hexagon riser), takes these two pieces to another level of beauty. The crisp white of the base combined with the beauty of the wood is simply gorgeous.

#7 is a 3 tiered tray that can serve as not only home decor, but can be functional for organizing. It is made from three wooden trays from Dollar Tree and paint stir sticks!

You can use this on your kitchen counter to hold snacks, or on your bathroom counter to organize some of your smaller items.

#8 has to be one of my favorites. This two tier rectangular tray is made from old wooden picture frames, and a wooden leg from a 1980’s coffee table. You can display much larger items, and change the decor out for every season.

#9 is a beauty made from scrap wood pieces. It is sturdy and made to last. I have the decal used here as a free PDF printable (click on the free printable link in the menu). You can print this onto copy paper and use the transfer method onto your project.

#10 is another favorite. It is made from the wooden panels from the Dollar Tree Plus section. Each panel costs $3. An old candle stick is used as the base between the two and 4 wooden beads added as feet. Another nice size tier tray.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you would like to recreate one of these, don’t forget to watch my YouTube video below to get the step by step instructions. I would love for you to subscribe on YouTube as well. It is a free way to help support my channel! xoxo Barbara

Farmhouse Diy Clock, Made Using Mostly Dollar Tree Items

I am going to show you the step by step process on how to create this beautiful clock for less than $7 (if you already have a clock mechanism) or $12 if you need to purchase the clock mechanism.

Step 1: Use two signs from Dollar Tree and glue them together using craft sticks. The back of the two signs will become the front of the clock.

Step 2: Use two packages of 5 gallon paint stir sticks, these can be found at Wal-Mart for less than $1 a pack.

Step 3: Cut them down to fit on the edges of the signs to create a frame and attach them using E6000.

Step 4: Attach one in the center of the two signs, and then attach one in the center of the two separate sections.

Step 5: Using 4 of the one gallon paint sticks or ruler sticks, that you can purchase from Lowe’s in a pack of 10 for $1.

Measure and cut out the angles for each section to create an X and attach using E6000.

Step 6: Fill in any large cracks with wood filler, allow it to dry and then sand down smooth.

Step 7: Find the center of the sign and drill a hole for the clock mechanism to be able to fit through.

Step 8: Glue tumbling tower game pieces from Dollar Tree, end to end until you have enough to go from one end of the sign to the other. Some of them will have to be cut to fit the sign perfectly. Glue them onto the back of the sign using E6000. This is going to create a beautiful frame and also allow room for the clock mechanism to set flush on the back.

Step 9: Fill in the cracks on the sides with spackling, allow to dry, and sand down smooth.

Step 10: Paint the sign the color of your choice. I painted this one with white chalk paint.

Step 11: If you like a distressed look, dry brush over the sign using a grey chalk paint.

Step 12: Using the two larger wire rings from a package from Dollar Tree, spray paint them in a Matte Black. Also spray paint the clock hands, so they match the rings.

Step 13: Once the paint has dried, attached the rings to the sign using E6000.

Step 14: Using the metal numbers from Dollar Tree, dry brush Truffle colored chalk paint on the edges to give a rusty look.

Step 15: Glue the numbers to the sign using E6000.

Step 16: Insert the clock mechanism and attach the clock hands.

Now, you have a gorgeous Farmhouse clock! If you would like to watch the Full Step by Step tutorial, see my YouTube video at the end of this post.

Thrift Flips

Thrift Decor Diys

Is it the thrill of hunting for that hidden gem, or the savings? For me it is both! I love to go thrift shopping and get so excited when I find some amazing pieces at rock bottom prices. I know they look a little rough around the edges, but with just a little work and elbow grease, you can transform it into a beautiful piece of decor. Sometimes with just a simple coat of paint, you can really bring new life into a piece. And that is just what I did for these 3 thrifted items. To see what they looked like before and to see the full tutorial on all three pieces, check out my YouTube video at the end of this post.

The first item I made over was a wine carafe that I purchased for only $1. I sprayed two coats of Krylon Fusion Spray Paint in the Color Matte White , you can find here:  https://amzn.to/3f8YSYf added some black chalk paint and a few greenery stems, turning this used wine bottle into a gorgeous farmhouse decor piece.

The second gem I found, was a small picnic basket. When I picked it up, I could just image flowers and greenery bursting from inside, as if it were growing out of the basket. There wasn’t a price tag, so I was a little skeptical went I went to the register to ask how much it was. To my surprise, it was only $1. What a steal. Using the same Krylon Fusion Matte White Spray paint, and adding buffalo check ribbon, this basket turned from drab to fab.

Adding simple greenery, lavender, and babies breath, and it is just what I imaged it would look like when I originally picked it up.

And the third piece was truly a hidden treasure. Tucked away on the bottom of a shelf was a wooden piece, that I was unsure what it even was. Once I picked it up, I realized it was a charging station. Not just any charging station either, this piece sells on Wayfair for $49, and I purchased this one for $3. Now that’s a bargain. Using the same spray paint and simply adding a decal I made with the Cricut Joy, and now I have a gorgeous, high end, farmhouse charging station to hide all of those messy cords. If you like this decal, don’t forget to check out my free printable page here https://wordpress.com/post/countrylilydecor.com/179 You can print this design out and trace onto your project.

I am pleased with how my thrifted items turned out. I hope you are inspired to create something beautiful for your home on a budget. For the detailed tutorial, see my video below. Take care everyone, xoxo Barbara

Accent Decor

Mini Farmhouse Cabinet

This mini farmhouse cabinet was made from mostly Dollar Tree items, and the barn door actually slides from left to right! Here are the instructions on how you can create one for yourself. If you prefer to watch the in depth step by step tutorial, my YouTube video is at the bottom of this post. There you will find a couple more farmhouse décor projects that turned out just as cute. Don’t forget to click the follow button here to get notifications about new posts.

Step 1: I used 3/8″ dowels and 1/4″ dowels to create handles.
Cut 3 one inch long pieces from the 3/8ths dowel, and (6) 1/4″ long pieces from the 1/4″ dowel.
Glue 2 of the smaller pieces to the one inch piece to make a handle. Create three handles.
Step 2: Use three wooden boxes with the drawer inserts from Dollar Tree.
Glue the three outer boxes to each other using wood glue with the openings facing you.
Paint the drawers and handles white.
Place the drawers back into the outer boxes with the original cut out designs in the back. It should look like this. Find the center of each drawer and glue the handles on.
Step 3: Use two wooden trays from Dollar Tree and (8) 3/4″ wood cubes (also from Dollar Tree). Glue two of the cubes together to make 4 sets of two.
Glue one set of the wood cubes to the inside of the tray on both sides. Make sure they are centered and pushed to the back of the tray.
They should look like this.
Step 4: Cut down two craft sticks. Glue one to the front of each tray.
Cut some giant craft sticks (from Wal-Mart) to glue to the top and bottom of each wood cube set.
This will create a nice finished shelf.
Step 5: Glue the two trays together using wood glue. I also added a little hot glue, this will hold it together while the wood glue sets up.
Step 6: Cut and glue craft sticks to the top of the two trays as well as the inside bottom of the two trays.
This will give it a nice finished wooden slat look.
Use a wooden plaque (this one is from Wal-Mart).
Step 7: Cut and glue craft sticks to the top, bottom, and both sides to create a frame.
Then measure and cut out the angles to create the X that will go in the middle.
Once you glue those down, it should look something like this.
Step 8: Drill a hole in the center of 4 Dollar Tree wood cubes. Make sure you drill all the way through.
Glue one of the wood cubes on each side of the two trays on the top at the edge. Make sure the holes are facing the sides of the trays.
This is showing the back side of the trays with the wood cubes on each end at the top. Then you will glue the other two wood cubes to the back of the barn door. Makes sure all the holes are facing the same direction. This will be how the door rests on top of the cabinet.
Step 9: Give everything a couple coats of white paint.
I like the distressed look, so I dry brushed gray paint on all of the pieces.
Step 10: Glue the two trays with the openings facing forward to the top of the three drawers. Make it flush to the back of the cabinet.
It should look like this. I painted a metal garden stake that I popped the sign off of (from Dollar Tree) as well as two beads. This will make the track for our door.
Since I used chalk paint, I am going over the entire piece with clear sealing wax. This will protect the paint, but also help the door to slide better.
Step 11: Sit the door on top of the trays so the wood cubes on the back of the door are resting on top of the trays.
Now you can slide your garden stake through each of the wood cubes.
Step 12: Glue a wood bead to each end of the garden stake. Not only does this keep the garden stake from coming out, it gives the piece a finished touch.

Now you have the cutest mini Farmhouse cabinet with a functioning barn door!
