Scrap Wood Fall Project Ideas To Keep Or Sell For A Profit
Don’t throw out those pieces of scrap wood! Turn them into gorgeous fall decor to keep for yourself, or sell for a profit by using these scrap wood fall project ideas.
Working with wood is one of my favorite materials to work with. In a previous post on Scrap Wood Fall Projects, I shared 5 fall decor pieces you could make out of scrap wood. Today, I am sharing projects you can make using pieces of 4 X4’s, 2 X 4’s, fence boards, and fir strips. I hope you enjoy!

These fall projects are a great way to use up some of your scrap pieces of wood and make inexpensive fall decor for your home, or to sell. When people ask how to price these items, there are a few factors to consider. It depends on the cost of your materials, time spent making the project, and the area in which you will be selling them. I would browse your local craft fairs and find similar items to see how they are priced, and use that as a guide to price your items.

01|Fall Porch Sign With Flower Box
Supply List for this scrap wood fall project:
- 6ft fence board
- Wood glue, I like using Gorilla Glue
- Hammer and finish nails, or in my case a Pneumatic Brad Nailer. If you don’t have access to an air compressor, you could purchase an electric brad nailer.
- Saw, either a hand saw or miter saw
- Sandpaper, it is helpful to have an electric sander
- Wood Stain, color of your choice. I used Mission Oak by Minwax
- Latex gloves, paint brush or foam brush, and lint free cloths
- Wooden letters and paint color of your choice. I purchased my wooden letters from Dollar General for $1 each
- Super Glue to attach the letters, I like using Gorilla Super Glue

Measure from the top of your fence board and cut at 42″. From the remainder of the board, cut 3 pieces 7″, and one piece 6 3/4″. I used a yellow pine fence board, which cost around $2.00 for a 6ft piece.

To assemble use wood glue and a brad nailer. Secure the three 7″ pieces at the bottom of the fence board to form your flower box. The final 6 3/4″ piece will be for the bottom of the flower box.

I attached the two side pieces first, then added the top piece to keep everything straight.

Finally, add your bottom piece.
Assembly Complete!

Because this wood is fairly rough, sand over the entire piece to prep it for stain.

Afterward, apply the stain with a cheap brush, then using a lint free cloth, wipe away the excess and blend in the stain.

While the stain is drying, paint the wooden letters the color of your choice.

Once the stain and paint are dry, attach your wooden letters to the center of your porch sign using super glue or a strong adhesive.

Lastly, I decided to add a decal to the top of my porch sign. Depending on where you will sit your sign, you may want to go over the entire thing with a sealant to protect the paint on the letters and the decal.
Final Result

You could place artificial florals in the bottom, however if you are planning on using real flowers, make sure to drill some drainage holes in the bottom of the flower box.

02|Pallet Pumpkin
This next scrap wood fall project is made using a 2″ wide piece of furring strip. I had a few leftover pieces, but you can also find them at your local Lowe’s for a couple dollars.

Cut 4 pieces 24″ and one piece 26″. You will also need some thin pieces of wood to attach to the back as brace pieces to hold everything together.

Place the longer piece in the middle leaving a gap between each piece. Draw the shape of a pumpkin. Since I am keeping my piece, I just freehanded the drawing, however if you want a more precise pumpkin, you could use a template to trace around. Because there are curves to cut, we will be using a jig saw for this project.

This was only my second time using a jig saw. I do recommend using it on a sturdy work surface and clamping your wood down, because it really vibrates the table!

Don’t worry too much about how rough the cuts look, you can smooth everything our with your sander.
Pick the color stain you want to use. I am using three different colors I already had on hand, as you can tell by the rusty tops.

I stained the middle piece and the two brace pieces with the darker stain, the remaining wood I stained a lighter color from the center out.

Once your stain dries, turn your piece over and nail the brace pieces to the back to hold your pallet pumpkin together.

I know its not perfect, but that’s what I really like about it.

03|Wooden Pumpkins
This fall scrap wood project turned out better than I imagined.
Using scrap 4 X 4 pieces, cut one 8 inches and one 6 inches.

Make sure to give them a good sanding, you will need them fairly smooth for the next step.

Grab these removable wall tiles with an embossed feel to them from Dollar Tree. You will need two tiles for each block. Since they are removable, adhere them to the wood using Mod Podge.

Paint them the color of your choice. Using an acrylic paint, I painted the shortest one white, and the tallest one celery green. Let the paint thoroughly dry.

Lightly sand over the paint to reveal as much of the design as you want to. Apply a gentle amount of pressure to make sure you do not tear the wall tile.
Finish your wooden pumpkin by adding a stem and a raffia bow. I used a miniature wooden candle stick from Hobby Lobby as the stem.

I love the distressed and rustic look of these wooden pumpkins.

04|Scrap Wood Scarecrows
Finally, our last project we will be using 2 X 4’s. Cut one to 6 1/4″ and one to 7 1/2″.

After sanding, paint the top part of each one in a burlap or khaki color. The largest one will be a boy scarecrow, so I painted the bottom portion a blue color, and the smallest one will be a girl, so I hot glued some Dollar Tree fabric to create a dress at the bottom.

Draw and paint the faces for each one. You can get really creative with this part. Don’t worry about being perfect, that’s what makes them so cute.

Once you have completed the faces, hot glue raffia for the hair, and burlap to the tops to create their hats.

Look how adorable they are!

Did you notice the girl has braids? I also made the boy a scarf and pocket using the same fabric I used for the dress.

Dollar Tree Fabric Hacks and DIY’s
Grab some of your favorite Dollar Tree fall fabric for these amazing hacks and DIY’s. These projects are fun and easy to do, no sewing required!

This post contains affiliate links, if you purchase through these links, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support!
Dollar Tree carries seasonal fabric rolls, typically in the Crafters Square section of the store. But you have to get them when you see them, because they go fast. I love coming up with new ideas to use them, other than sewing. I am not an advanced sewer, at best I can make a basic stitch.😂
Below you will find 7 fall projects you can make using these Dollar Tree fabric hacks. Each one is budget friendly, easy to make, and a fun way to express your creativity.
01|Vase
Create a fall bouquet to place inside a glass mason jar. To elevate the jar, mod podge a piece of fabric around the middle.

For an added touch, cut out the shape of a pumpkin in the center of the fabric, and fill the jar with mini pine cones.

I love the rustic look of this! It would look great sitting on an end table or use it as a centerpiece.
02|Thankful Sign
I couldn’t resist buying this beautiful fabric with mushrooms and leaves on it. At first I wasn’t sure what to do with it. Then it dawned on me that it would make a gorgeous sign.

By simply hot gluing the fabric to a piece of cardboard I traced out into the shape of a pumpkin, and adding a faux leather word to the front, I can now display this beautiful fabric all season long.
03|Busted Canvas
Have you heard of a busted canvas, or punched canvas? I have seen them all over social media this year. I decided to make one for the fall season by using fabric on the backside of the canvas. That’s the plaid you see peeling forward showing the pumpkin image behind it.

If you would like to know the step by step instructions on how to create your own punched canvas, check out my YouTube video at the end of this post.

I can’t wait to make some of these for Christmas!
04|Layered Pumpkin
Decoupaging napkins or tissue paper to Dollar Tree signs can give it an entirely new look. But did you know you can decoupage fabric too?

This beautiful orange fabric with pumpkin and flowers designs has to be one of my favorite fabric finds at Dollar Tree. I painted the pumpkin white and decoupaged the fabric to the layered portions of the sign.

05|Fabric Art
Because I love that fabric so much, I turned into a piece of art.

Find a frame that looks well with your fabric. You can either decoupage to the backing of the frame, or use hot glue to secure it to the backing.

If you use hot glue, make sure to do small sections at a time so you can keep the fabric as tight as possible.
06|Wood Plaque
Make a simple wood plaque to display on an end table, book shelf, or even a tiered tray.

The frayed edges on this piece really help with the rustic feel I was going for.

You could also use fabric to create coasters. I think this design would make gorgeous coasters for fall.
07|Mini Tag
Sometimes you find a playful design on fabric that just makes you smile. Like this project!

Attach your fabric to a small tag sign, add a bow and pine cones, to create a cute door hanger, or to embellish a gift.

I hope you enjoyed these projects! If you have a favorite, leave me a comment below.

Fall Projects Under $5
Decorate your home this fall in style and on a budget. I’m sharing these fall projects that cost under $5, and are easy to recreate.

Not only are these projects festive and affordable, but they are so fun to make.
Project#1, Solid Wood Pumpkin With A Crackle Paint Finish

This page contains affiliate links, if you purchase through these links I will receive a small commission at no extra charge to you. Thank you for your support.
I know what your thinking, how is this one of the fall projects under $5? Items like this sell for anywhere between $20 to $30 in high end stores or boutiques. The answer is…… most of the supplies can be found at Dollar Tree!
Supply List:
- 3 wooden oval plaques, you can find these at Dollar Tree in the Crafters Square section of the store
- 2 different paint colors, I used a dark brown in the color coffee bean, and a lighter color, burlap
- Elmer’s School Glue
- Wood Stem
- Raffia
- Ribbon
- Faux Leaves
- Paint Brushes
Steps To Recreate This Project:
- Glue the three wooden ovals together by placing one oval on top of the other two and using a permanent glue for a strong hold.
- Paint the entire piece your base color, in my case the dark brown, and let the paint dry.
- Apply a generous amount of Elmer’s school glue to only the top part of each oval, while the glue is still wet, paint over the glue with your lighter color, in my case, burlap. I chose to do one oval at a time so I wouldn’t have to rush.
- While the glue and lighter color are still wet, use a hair dryer set on high and go over the painted surface, the glue will cause cracks showing the darker color underneath.
- Complete the previous step for all three ovals.
- Allow several hours for the glue and paint to completely dry.
- Glue a wood stem or branch on the back of the center oval, and add your embellishments, such as leaves, raffia, and ribbon.

Project#2 Welcome To Our Patch Door Hanger

This door hanger is another one of the fall projects under $5, actually it cost less than $2 to make!
Supply List:
- Wood round with raised pumpkin sign from Dollar Tree
- Light brown stain or paint
- White Paint
- Ribbon
- Decal or printable
Steps To Recreate This Project:
- Stain the wood round, in this case I used Waverly Antique wax and watered it down to make a light stain so you would still be able to see the engravings on the sign.
- Using a sponge dauber from Dollar Tree paint the raised pumpkin white.
- Add a Welcome To Our Patch Decal, using a Cricut cutting machine. If you don’t have a cutting machine, no worries, I have this as a free printable, you can download, print at home, and trace onto your project. Click HERE to go to the free printables page.
- Create a messy bow using ribbons of your choice to add to the top of your new door hanger.

Project#3 Stacked Pumpkin Sign
Can you believe I found this wooden stacked pumpkin sign at Dollar General for only $3? If you haven’t been to your local Dollar General this fall, you are missing out. They have some gorgeous fall decor at amazing prices. I recently did a shop with me video, if you would like to see all the items my local store had, click here.

If you want a neutral look this fall, this sign is perfect as is. When purchased it was all wood. I wanted a little more of the traditional fall colors on mine, so I painted the bottom pumpkin in a pumpkin spice colored paint, the middle pumpkin in a celery green paint, and the top pumpkin in white.

This sign looks really nice with Dollar Tree’s newest pumpkins. The larger ones sit on their sides.
Project#4 Fall Decorative Cutting Board
This project turned out better than I imagined!

I love big bows! The colors in this bow really pop against this cutting board creating an elegant statement piece.
Supplies Needed:
- Larger hanging cutting board (found in Dollar Tree’s Plus section) it was only $3
- Paint, burlap color and antique wax
- Napkin with design of your choice
- Nautical rope from Dollar Tree
- 5 to 6 different colored and sized ribbons
- Mod Podge
- Pipe Cleaner and Zip Ties
Steps To Recreate This Project:
- Paint the back of the cutting board, so you will be able to have a two sided piece. I painted in a burlap color.
- Add a napkin with the design of your choice onto the board using Mod Podge.
- Dry brush antique wax on the edges of the board, napkin, and across the board as you see fit to create a more distressed look.
- Glue a piece of nautical rope to the top and bottom of the napkin, for a more rustic look.
- Create the size bow you want and hold together using zip ties. Then attach the bow to the handle using a pipe cleaner. This way you can flip your sign over and flip the bow. Then you are able to use both sides.

We will be using a round cutting board shaped sign that you can find at Dollar Tree as the base of our door hanger.

Once you have removed the raffia bow and any labels, turn the board over to the back side to paint. I used an acrylic paint in the color burlap.

A khaki color would also work well.

Once dry, lay your fabric across the top of the board covering the handle. This gorgeous plaid fabric came from Fold the bottom piece of fabric up about one inch, but don’t glue it down yet. Fold each side of the fabric behind the sign like shown below. Turn your sign and fabric over and tack the bottom of the fabric down using some hot glue. I love using Gorilla Hot Glue, it provides a really strong hold. Attach pieces of raffia underneath the fabric on the front of the sign using hot glue. I attached longer strands on the outside and shorter ones across the middle. Make sure to glue the fabric to the sign as you are attaching the raffia. Trim the bangs across the front to clean them up a bit. Glue the folded fabric across the front down to create a faux seam. Gather the fabric at the top, right where the handle starts. Hold this together using twine, double knot it to make sure the fabric stays in place. I decided to tie a sweet little bow in the front with the twine. Flip your door hanger over and glue the back pieces of fabric to the handle to make sure they stay in place. Trim any loose strands of fabric at the top of the sign to give it a clean look. Now for the really fun part, creating the face for your scarecrow door hanger. If you don’t like to free hand, you can find scarecrow images online and print and trace onto your project, or you could use your Cricut cutting machine and cut out a cute face design. I used a pencil to draw out the eyes, nose, and mouth. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Go over your pencil marks with a black sharpie. I painted the nose with a pumpkin spice colored paint. While the nose was drying I painted the eyes with a black acrylic paint, and added stitches to the mouth. To add a little more whimsy, I added dots onto the nose using the burlap colored paint. Once the paint on the eyes were dry, I added in the white acrylic paint. Look at that adorable scarecrow face coming to life! Using a fine tip sharpie add in a few eye lashes and details under the eyes. Use the fine tip sharpie to also add stitches around the nose. Add any embellishments you like to the hat. I used a burlap flower from Dollar Tree. Rustic Scarecrow Door Hanger DIY

Scrap Wood Fall Projects
It’s time to start our Fall crafting. What better way to kick off the season, than creating fall decor using scrap wood? I can’t get enough of these scrap wood fall projects!

Do you have piles of left over wood pieces from previous projects that you just can’t seem to part with? I mean they’re perfectly good pieces of wood, and you don’t want to just throw them away. My husband calls me the “wood hoarder” because I feel like there is always something that can be made with these scrap pieces. But over time, they do tend to pile up.

With the cost of wood being so expensive these days, I want to save every little piece I can.
As a DIYer, I have always loved working with wood. Taking a piece of ordinary wood and turning it into something completely different is so satisfying. It’s a passion that was instilled in me as a child. My dad was a General Contractor, so I grew up around all the wood working tools. Watching him build a house from the ground up was magical. And there were always scrap pieces of wood left over.
Let me show you five Fall projects you can make using these scrap pieces of wood. They are all beginner friendly. No crazy expensive tools required. It would be helpful to have a few things though:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Saw (Circular, Miter, or a good ole hand saw will work)
- Drill
- Screws
- Painters Tape
- Fall Color Paints
- Wood Stems (or branches from your yard)
- Ribbon

Scrap Wood 2X4 Pumpkins
We are always building something on our farm, so we have plenty of scrap pieces of 2X4’s lying around. Let’s put those to good use by turning them into pumpkins.

Make a trio of pumpkins with different designs. Cut a 2X4 into three different lengths, 4″, 6″, and 8″. Paint each one in a spiced pumpkin colored paint. I prefer spice pumpkin because it is not as bright as the pumpkin orange. If you don’t have spiced pumpkin paint, no worries, just add a little brown into your pumpkin orange paint to darken it a bit.

I painted the 6″ pumpkin with white stripes. You could free hand the stripes, but I can’t paint a straight line, so I used painters tape to help with this.
Use two different sized Dollar Tree sponge daubers to paint the perfect circles on the 8″ pumpkin.

Glue a wood stem to the top of each one, add ribbon in the colors of your choice. Since the smallest one didn’t have any white paint, I decided to add some natural wood beads to the twine.
Rustic Candle Holder
We had a few ends of some fence boards left over. I thought this would be perfect to make a rustic candle holder.

Stain the wood the color of your choice. Attach a straight piece of the fence board to the taller piece using wood glue and screws. Embellish it with a fall pick from Hobby Lobby and add a battery operated LED candle.

You can use this as tabletop decor or add a saw tooth hanger to the back to use as a wall sconce.
Scrap Wood Projects (Wooden Pumpkin)
Speaking of fence boards, I hade quite a few ends left over. With the angles cut at each corner, I thought this would make the perfect pumpkin.

Glue four pieces together and paint it a spiced pumpkin color. Add a stem, raffia, and berry garland to complete this simple project.

How cute is this?
Personalized Scrap Wood Fall Pumpkin Project
Personalize your own pumpkin, with your initials and in the color you like to decorate with.

Using a 2X6 that measures around 5 1/4″, paint it the color of your choice. I wanted a more neutral color, and I love the farmhouse feel. I painted it white and distressed the edges with a brown acrylic paint. Add a decal with your initial (or a friends, if you are giving as a gift) and top it off with a stem and bow.

My Favorite Scrap Wood Fall Project
This piece was inspired by a piece I saw at Lowe’s priced for $56. Being thrifty, and cheap, I knew I could create something similar for far less.

This piece was made with scrap decking boards. Cut four pieces, one at 14″, one at 17″, and two at 21″. Paint the 14″, 17″, and one of the 21″ boards a spiced pumpkin color, and the other 21″ piece a brown oxide or you could stain it. Attach the pieces with wood glue and screws. Embellish with wood stems, Dollar Tree wood leaves, and a wreath made using Dollar Tree picks.

For a touch of elegance, wrap fairy lights around the wreath.
For exact measurements and detailed instructions on how to complete each of these projects, please watch my YouTube video below.
If you enjoyed these scrap wood fall projects, I think you will like this post too.
